The Law of Predation
Simply put, the Law of Predation says "To eat, you must hunt."
When we examine the Gatekeeper's meaning behind this law, we
discover, as always is with these works, that it cannot and
should not be taken word for word, at simple face value. What is
meant by this law, is that we must work for that which we
receive.
When we get up and go to our jobs each morning, we are obeying
the Law of Predation. When we farm the land to raise food for
our tables, we are obeying the Law of Predation. For those among
us who are witches, shamans and medicine healers, when magical
work is done to bring a desired result, the Law of Predation is
being obeyed.
All things in the world are manifestations of energy. Our
paychecks are a manifestation of the energy we put into our jobs.
The fresh vegetables from the farmer's field is a manifestation
of the earth and sun's energies. Within the world, a continuous
exchange of energy is taking place. Energy is moving from one
place to another, from one person to another, from one form to
another. This exchange of energy is governed by the Law of
Predation. In order to get, we must give.
When we work, when we "do", we are giving. We are making a
"deposit" into the world's great energy bank, that later we may
make a "withdrawal", so to speak. More often than not, the
"withdrawal" manifests itself into a different form, such as the
energy of our work "turning into" a paycheck, which we can then
convert again into food, clothing and shelter.
So many people try to avoid obeying the Law of Predation. They
will pray to win the lottery. They will steal from others. And
while they may succeed in avoiding the Law of Predation for a
while, it always returns, bringing with it the justice of the Law
of Three, and demanding its due. Those who have cheated the Law
of Predation at this time or that, pay back their debt owed three
times over.
Thus, to live in harmony and peace with the world and others,
seek out the Law of Predation, and bid it a hearty welcome. Hide
not from work, instead, go willingly and with a graceful heart to
your job, no matter what it may be, no matter how difficult or
simple it may seem.
Bear in mind that many people overestimate their own value, or
the value of their contributions. They seem to think that the
slightest effort on their part should bring them the greatest of
rewards, and of course, they want material rewards, and plenty of
it at that! These folks believe that if they merely show up for
work each day, they should be rewarded by the highest of salary,
the plushest of office, and the grandest of all.
When they receive little or nothing, the person feels terribly
cheated, and becomes self-righteously angry. They demand
retribution, and often will stop at nothing to get what they
think is their due reward. More often than not, if you examined
this person's life, you would discover that they have contributed
little or nothing to the collective energy bank over the course
of their many years. And they continue to contribute little,
while still demanding and expecting a lot. They seek to cheat
the Law of Predation, and they will fail in their efforts, in the
end paying a far greater price than they would have had they
simply done what was necessary across the course of their days.
These people will also discount the value of others'
contributions, saying that they certainly don't see why So-and-So
deserves such a high salary, when So-and-So doesn't seem to do
much of anything.
These people forget that the Law of Predation does not guarantee
instant payment. If you examine So-and-So's life, what you will
discover is that for many years, So-and-So gave large
contributions to the collective energy bank, contributions
ranging well beyond what was merely required. And now, So-and-So
is finally collecting back what s/he has contributed, with added
interest and benefits as well!
Seek ye not to cheat the Law of Predation. Be a cheerful giver
to the collective energy bank. Indeed, contribute beyond your
perceived "required" share. The benefits you will reap later
will be well worth the work and effort.
The Law of Balance
The Law of Balance tells us that all things occur in balance, and
must remain in balance. Just as we have night and day, male and
female, good and bane, pleasure and pain throughout the world and
within us, so we should seek to live a live of balance.
Many people seek to cheat the Law of Balance. They believe that
their lives should be filled with joy and pleasure, and that they
should never have to know any burden or pain. As with the Law of
Predation, some people can manage to escape the Law of Balance
for a time. But, as will be, eventually the Law of Balance comes
to claim its privilege, bringing along with it the Law of Three.
In paying the balance due, we will pay three times over that
which we contrived to escape.
In obeying the Law of Balance, we must seek to lives our lives in
balance. Among other things, this means taking care of ourselves
through balancing work and play, eating and exercise, and so
forth.
When facing times of trial or darkness, we need to accept them
with grace, always remembering that even though we may be
experiencing pain or heartache at the moment, eventually there
will come a time of joy and pleasure to balance things out. If
we can remember this, we will be more capable of bearing our
burdens with grace.
As with the Law of Predation, sometimes we will see people who
make it appear as though they are indeed escaping the Law of
Balance. These folks seem to live "blessed" lives. They never
get caught in the rain without an umbrella, and never get parking
tickets. However, if we step back and look at the overall course
of their lives, we would probably find that either they have
already faced a long, extensive period of difficulties, or, if we
could peer into the future, we would find that they are getting
ready to enter into a long period of difficulties.
The Law of Balance is not instantaneous. It measures itself out
over the course of our lifetimes. However, we should not let
this knowledge tempt us into thinking.... "I'll eat extra
chocolate ice cream today, and balance it out by exercising next
week." Being human as we are, when next week comes, we will have
forgotten about our promise to exercise and work off that ice
cream. If we enter into this behavior many times, we will
eventually build up a "debt" of balance that will toss us
headfirst into a period of unpleasantness we would probably
rather not face, especially given that the Law of Three will
eventually add to the debt we owe.
Live your life in balance. Seek balance in all that you do.
Accept the dark times with grace, remembering that a time of
light will follow at some point.
